Alwen Dam

About Alwen Dam

Alwen Dam car park has space for about 20 cars and there are three picnic tables. The Dam itself was completed in 1906 and its construction is unusual being of concrete which was only just starting to be used in large scale projects of this nature at that time. It occupies a commanding position over the public road at pont yr Alwen, and accessible to all users, it offers good views both westwards over the reservoir and eastwards to the Llantysilio hills.

How to get there:

Alwen Dam is in Alwen which is part of Hiraethog Forest.
Following the B4501 northwards from Cerrigydrudion there is a signed left turn into the forest shortly after the Pont yr Alwen junction. Follow the forest road through smallholding and take the first left to park adjacent to the dam.
Cerrigydrudion is the nearest town or village.

What's of interest

Short walks on the lake shore and great views from the dam itself. Fishing is what brings most people here and permits are available from the Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre 1.5 miles away to the north.

Please check before you visit that the area you want to come to is not closed, due to work in progress or an event taking place, by logging on to the CCW Website for current and future closures as determined by the CRoW 2000 Act.
