About Pont-y-Pair
A forest of giants and a trails gateway
The giant Douglas fir trees around Betws y Coed were planted as saplings in the 1920s and now weigh over 10 tonnes each.
You can walk from Pont y Pair to see these splendid giants at their best by following the easy graded boardwalk and footpath along the banks of the Afon Llugwy.
Explore the surrounding ancient and varied landscape on three Forestry Commission Wales waymarked trails that start from this end of Betws y Coed. They take you up through forested hillsides, past mines, lakes, meadows, cliffs and streams.
To find the start of the trails follow the tarmac road out beyond the car park, heading west (away from Betws y Coed centre) for 150m, then take the first tarmac road on your right for 180m to a sharp bend. The walks are waymarked from this bend.
