About Craik

Nestling in the heart of the southern uplands, Craik Forest is great for those who want to 'get away from it all'.

Woodland trails and cycle tracks can be found around Craik village.

The Waterfall Walk beside the Aithouse Burn is particularly stunning, at any time of year. There is the all ability access 'Burnside trail' along the Borthwick water, with information on the salmon spawning, bats and local Roman history.

A hide allows the fortunate to view the elusive red squirrel, alongside a variety of woodland birds.

The large scale and isolation of this forest makes it perfect for the keen naturalist. In good weather you will be rewarded by a stunning woodland landscape on a massive scale.

How to get there:

Craik is part of Forests of the Scottish Borders. Hawick is the nearest town or village.

From Hawick, follow the A7 towards Carlisle.

At Martins Bridge turn onto the B711 and follow this road until you come to Roberton, which is a very small village and school. Just beyond the school, turn down to the left and then follow the unclassified single track road. Craik Forest is well sign posted.

Lovely stunning place. Signposts & Map don't tally, utterly confusing with us walking in wrong direction. Sign Posts need Work

I had a return visit to Craik Forest, the first time I had been there for about 10years. What a disappointment I got nothing seems to be managed anymore, The toilets were needing a good clean, The walks and the cycle tracks seem to be used as horse riding tracks. There is blown trees everywhere and the track to the Wolfcleuch Waterfall is nearly inpassable. the grassy area on the roadside into Craik looks like a ploughed field. The only positive was the bird feeders in the Policy Wood were filled and were attracting plenty of birds. This is not one of your better managed forests!

Used to come here all the time on the bike all year round and had some amazing runs and cycle runs. Went back last year to find they were doing loads of felling work which cutt off basically the whole bike route. Fair enough I though but to check up almost 9 months later to find they're still doing the same job is very disseapointing really. Such a waste of a great cycling spot. That said its still great for walks or runs!
