About Countesswells and Foggieton
These two woods are on the outskirts of Aberdeen, near Cults. The woods are very popular with dog walkers and people just needing a break from the pressures of city life.
Countesswells Wood includes Kingshill and Rotten O'Gairn. You'll be led through a variety of woodland from the huge mature conifers at the car park to open viewpoints over the surrounding farmland.
Foggieton Wood is half a mile away. It is much smaller but just as busy.
The big beech trees at Foggieton, which shade the car park, were planted in the 1860's. Underneath them is a clear example of 'rig-and-furrow'. This old type of land use which formed long ridges and hollows was used in the 18th and early 19th centuries in areas where the soil was shallow or badly drained.
You can download a copy of our Aberdeenshire Walks leaflet in What's of Interest. If you want larger scale versions of the trail maps, please follow the link to any of the trails. Each will have a downloadable map, including distances and times.
