Achany

This is a mixed conifer forest with numerous small glades and pockets of old alder and birch coppice. Beautiful mosses and plants such as wood sorrel carpet the glades.

All the walks start from the Falls of Shin Visitor Centre. The newest route, the ‘Riverside Walk’, runs through the forest before following the River Shin back to the salmon leap viewpoint spur. This walk passes through mixed broadleaf native woodland that was once characteristic of much of Sutherland.

To the west of the centre are two loops walks – the shorter one is an easy going countryside for all standard router that passes a lovely viewpoint looking down the River Shin, the longer loop heads deeper into the mixed forest of pine, spruce and beech.

This forest lies just west of the Shin Falls Visitor Centre.
