About Screel

There are no longer any waymarked trails in Screel Wood. There is still access to the forest under the Scottish outdoor access code which offer stunning  views across Auchencairn Bay, the Solway Coast and surrounding Galloway countryside.

How to get there:

Screel is part of Forests of the Solway Coast. Auchencairn, Palnackie, Castle Douglas, and Dalbeattie are the nearest towns or villages.

Follow the A711 from Dalbeattie or Kirkcudbright. The car park is signposted south of Palnackie.

The nearest train station is in Dumfries.

Great hill to climb and a great view from the top! We even saw an Adder sunbathing upon our decent who wasn't much for having his picture taken! Too bad for him, we got his photograph! Over all an amazing day!
