About Kirroughtree Visitor Centre

Pay a visit to Kirroughtree visitor centre for fun for all the family. Our welcoming tea room serves light meals & refreshments. Browse around our gift shop for that special souvenir. Our adventure play area and picnic areas will appeal to the younger visitor.

Visitor centre opening times

30th March - 28th October 2012, 10.30am - 4.30pm.

6th July - 2nd September 2012, 10.30am 5.30pm.

Open all bank holiday weekends 10.30am - 5.30pm Saturday - Monday inclusive.

Parking charges
  • Up to 1 hour, all vehicles: £1.00 
  • Car up to 3 hours: £2.00 
  • Car day tariff (expires midnight): £3.00 
  • Minibus and coach day tariff (expires midnight) £12.00

Walks and cycling trails for all

There are waymarked walks and cycle routes including the exciting 7 stanes mountain bike trails and our easy access trail around the pond.

We have recently made improvements to our waymarked trails at Kirroughtree and the path building work is now complete.  Please follow the trails temporary signage whilst we wait for our official way markers to be installed.

How to get there:

Kirroughtree Visitor Centre is in Galloway Forest Park.
From Newton Stewart:
Take A75 signposted Dumfries for 3 miles. Turn left at Palnure signposted Kirroughtree Visitor Centre.
From New Galloway:
Take A712 to Newton Stewart. Turn left at T-junction onto A75. Turn left at Palnure signposted Kirroughtree Visitor Centre.
By Bus:
Service 431from Newton Stewart to Gatehouse of Fleet. 500 and x75 Newton Stewart to Dumfries.
Exit the bus at Palnure, a short walk from Kirroughtree Visitor Centre.
Newton Stewart and Creetown. is the nearest town or village.

Educational Extensive education service offered throughout Galloway Forest Park. Education base at Kirroughtree featuring our Forest Classroom available for Schools and groups
Fishing Fishing permits are available for Loch Braden, Loch Dee, Black Loch, Loch of the Lowes, Lillies Loch, Spectacle Loch, Garwachie, Loch Eldrig, Stroan Loch, Linfern Loch and Palnure Burn. Permits can be purchased at any of the Visitor Centres.
Play Area Kirroughtree has an extensive play area.
