About Rest and Be Thankful Carpark
Running up Glen Croe, the road crosses and re-crosses the river in the crag-confined floor of the glen before climbing steadily up the valley flank to its head on the pass of the Rest and Be Thankful, at 246m (800ft).
The rest stop offers excellent views of the surrounding countyside.
The 'Rest', as it is often called, is a vital communications link for much of mid and south Argyll - it takes the traveller through to the old county town of Inveraray.
How to get there:
Rest and Be Thankful Carpark is in Glen Croe which is part of Argyll Forest Park.
By road from Glasgow, follow the A82 along Loch Lomondside. Then follow the A83 over the Rest and Be Thankful, towards Oban, Inveraray and Dunoon.
Arrochar is the nearest town or village.
