About Chargot

Chargot Woods, a peaceful place with a lively history. Explore all that remains of a way of life that was difficult, dangerous, and ultimately doomed to failure.

What is now woodland was once the site of a mine, part of the West Somerset Mineral Railway. All that now remains are the ruins of Langham Engine House and Bearland Flue, which in 2008 were conserved by the West Somerset Mineral Railway Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

There are two trails for you to explore these ruins starting from the car park, and many other sites across the area that were part of the railway. Visit the website for more details.
