The Royal Forest of Rockingham, a medieval hunting forest, is a beautiful patchwork of ancient woodlands and open agricultural land with historic features and attractive stone-built forest villages. Today the Forest offers visitors plenty of routes for walking, cycling and riding. Rockingham Forest is at the very centre of the Forestry Commission's Ancient Woodland Project. There are a number of different woods to visit.
- Fineshade Wood
- Wakerley Great Wood
- Fermyn Wood
- Bedford Purlius National Nature Reserve
- Southey Wood (TF 111 025), is a mixed woodland, with majestic oaks. The wood is in the Soke of Peterborough and is located on the minor road between the villages of Upton and Ufford.
