Most of Laughton Forest is leased from the Meynell Estate and public access is restricted. However, Tuetoes is owned by the Commission and you are welcome to explore. Enjoy the tranquillity of the woodland, home to flapping herons and elusive nightjars. Stroll beneath soaring tree trunks and soak up the fresh smell of pine. I spent my chidhood living in the now demolished Warren House, Back then (40,s and 50,s) one could wander almost at will in any part of the forest without challenge so long as no damage was being done. Most folk now visit the north side of Hardwick Hill as opposed to Tuetoes Hills. I hve noted comments of deer hunting and to be honest, despite living 'on site' for 18 years this is news to me. I also note comments on snakes, these have not been introduced but were a common sight as I was growing up, especially vipers, it was not uncommon to see a dozen or more sunning themselves on the pine-needles where th sun shone through a clearing. Sadly the woods have deteriorated but most of this is down to poor management by Laughton Estates rather than the Forestry Commission.

having been born at hardwick hill in 1952 to winifred irene button (nee dannatt) and the late samuel Button (formerly from pinn hill, i very often return to laughton woods, with my children and grandchildren, the old house no longer stands but i remember it well, the last time i was there, there was burnt out cars and signs of dumping, hope this can be sorted soon as i will be returning there soon.

Interesting comments, as a resident of Laughton Woods, I know that there is no public access to the majority of the woods as it is privately owned by the estate and only leased by the FC, hence the new signs, however the police are starting to take more of an 'interest' into the activities going on in the woods and hopefully this should soon start to address the problems of the undesirables.
