About Laughton Forest
Laughton Forest was planted by the Forestry Commission in 1927, with Scots and Corsican Pine, plus a mixture of broadleaf trees. Before this time, the area was mainly open heathland, with ponds, small woodlands and shifting sand dunes.
The forest still supports a wide range of these habitats, which include many locally and nationally rare plants, animals and birds. Ongoing work aims to enhance this biodiversity by enlarging heathland areas and improving wetlands and sand dune systems which were once a feature of this Lincolnshire landscape.
Laughton Forest is leased from the Meynell Estate and public access is restricted apart from on the public rights of way and the area known as Tuetoes in the North of the forest.
