About The Marches

The Marches Forest Area extends from just north of Shrewsbury south to Leominster and across to the welsh border.

The undulating landscape of this area is punctuated with woodland sites many of which have historical and biological significance.

Mortimer Forest near Ludlow is the largest woodland block in the area.

 

How to get there:

Stretching along the borders of England and Wales the Marches covers a wide area.

Mortimer forest is the largest block where picturesque Ludlow is the nearest town or village.

The Marches area stretches from Shrewsbury south to Leominster.

walking There are waymarked trails in several woodlands in the area. You are welcome to walk in all our freehold woodlands.
cycling Hopton and Eastridge woods have downhill bike tracks for the brave as well as cross country trails. In other woods cyclists are permitted on bridleways and forest roads.
horse riding Riding is permitted on forest roads and bridleways.

Was interested to see The Marches mentioned on notice boards etc. when in Ludlow at the weekend. None of the locals knew what it meant. Beautiful area, and will return to explore when it isn't raining !

Had a great time exploring the woods and saw the beautiful Mortimer Fallow with their long shaggy hair. The FC staff were very friendly and showed me the best places to see deer and wildlife.
