About Barbecues in the New Forest
The New Forest is a popular place to have a barbecue. In order to protect this special landscape from the risk of fire we request that if you are planning a barbecue you read the information below.

Which type of barbecue can I use?
Family Groups (under 20 people)
Family groups of under 20 people can use:
Disposable barbecues
Disposable barbecues are not allowed, except in the picnic sites at Bolderwood, Blackwater and Wilverley where special log stands or plates are provided.
Appropriate fire precautions should to be taken and we request that the used barbecue and all litter is taken home with you.
Non-Disposable and gas barbecues Freestanding gas/charcoal barbecues can be used within 20 metres of all car parks provided they are raised safely off the ground to avoid scorching the vegetation.

Barbecue Code
- Make sure you place your barbecue well away from any dry leaves, vegetation or wood.
- Always have water available.
- Ensure barbecue is out cold after use and dispose of ash safely in a bin or take it home.
- Barbecue hearths are available for hire at Anderwood and Wilverley. If you are planning a barbecue for over 20 people then please book one of these sites. To check availability and for more information please call us. Forestry Commission, Lyndhurst: 0238 028 6849 or please see below.
When fire risk is ‘extreme’ barbecues must not be used away from the following picnic sites: Bolderwood, Blackwater and Wilverley and the hireable barbecues at Anderwood and Wilverley .
More than 20 people in your group? .
If you group is more than 10 people we recommend that one of our static barbecue sites is hired.
Hiring a barbecue site
There are 2 sites for hire in the New Forest at Anderwood and Wilverley.
Both these barbecues will cater for up to 100 people and are a great place for a family get together, group social or corporate events.
We provide the BBQ hearth and the gorgeous scenery and all you need to bring is food, drinks, charcoal and of course good company.
The charge for using the site is: £50.00 Monday - Friday and £60.00 for a Saturday or Sunday.
We only take one booking per day so once hired the site is yours from 10am – midnight.

Advance booking is advised as the sites book up very early in the year for the summer months. Please note that in order to process the paperwork at least 2 weeks noticed is required to hire either site.

Only use the designated campsites. We also recommend that you book your pitch in advance as the campsites can become very busy in the holiday periods.**** |
