About Horrocks Woods

Set within the foothills of Winter Hill, Horrocks Horrocks Wood is a fantastic place to visit. On clear days views to Jodrell Bank Observatory and beyond can be enjoyed from the many paths which link together areas of open grassland and young woodland.A network of paths will suit all ages of explorer, from a short 10 minute loop to longer walks extending to several hours. Don't miss out a photocall beside the brilliant red coal wagon.

How to get there:

Astley Bridge, Belmont, Horwich, Bolton, and Egerton are the nearest towns or villages.

Regular buses run to nearby Smithills Country Park. A 20 minute walk from here links into Horrocks Wood. Alternatively if travelling in a vehicle there is a car park at Scout Road.

Forget the complaints about the car park venture beyond it and you will find a fantastic untvariety of wildlife and excellent views. The hunting barn owls are a special treat. Conratulations to who planned this site, more of the same please

The car park is a disgrace, but the walks and views are stunning. Can a bin be provided please?
