About Wye Valley Woods

The woodlands covering the valley sides of the River Wye are a mosaic of broadleaf and conifer trees, providing a variety of wildlife habitats. Large parts of the area, particularly the limestone cliffs, form part of a SSSI.

How to get there:

Wye Valley Woods is part of Wye Valley. Monmouth and Coleford are the nearest towns or villages.

Accessed from the A40 at Monmouth, follow the A4136, (Gloucester road), for the northern woods and the A466, (Chepstow road), the southern woods.Easily accessible from M4/48, M5, M50, A40 and A49. Mainline trains via Newport or Gloucester.

Waymarked trails start at Symonds Yat Rock. The Wye Valley walk passes through.

cycling

The area around Symonds Yat Rock and Highmeadow is not recommended for cycling. A Sustrans route runs beside part of the River Wye.

horse riding

The stoned road network is suitable for riding.

I bring my son up there nearly every weekend. to say the least he loves it! so do I. if theres one thing you kust do before you die, its go for a walk in ther wye valley.
