About Bonnetts Wood

With farmed land to the west of this site Bonnetts Wood is off the beaten track and provides a haven from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. There’s a network of paths ringing the slowly growing stands of native trees, as well as running alongside the boundary stream to the west connecting with a small, often flowered wet meadow in the south western corner of the site. Parking is available in Parklands, off Park Farm Road, and Bonnetts Wood entrance is directly opposite the car park.

What's of interest

The site is named after the Bonnetts family who farmed these fields, as part of their Central Farm, from the 1920’s until the Forestry Commission’s purchase of the land in 2002. The retired farm owner, Bert Bonnett, used to be a common sight on his large drey pulled by two shire horses, as he navigated the local lanes.
