About Broaks Wood

Broaks Wood covers an area of 62hectares, the majority of which is designated as an Ancient Woodland site and has probably existed as a woodland since the end of the last Ice Age, 12,000 years ago. Broaks wood is managed with conservation as a priority, but an average of 500 tonnes of timber are harvested annually. Coppicing is practiced on some broad-leaved species which benefits wildlfe by adding to the diversity of the habitat.

The thing that REALLY spoils this place is the incredible amount of dogs mess. Even the very few owners who put it in a bag, then just throw it into the undergrowth! All visting dog owners should be thorougly ashamed of their lazy, disgusting, and disgraceful conduct.

I love Broaks wood, especially the coast redwood stand. It's great to see something out of the ordinary planted by the Forestry Commission, makes a nice change from the usual uninspiring run-of-the-mill species British woodland groups seem to plant everywhere. It's a shame they were planted so crowded, but well done anyway. Now, can you do anything about the weather??
