About Abbots Wood

Abbot's Wood is a mixed woodland of approximately 360 hectares, offering waymarked forest trails, an adventure play area and barbecue / picnic sites.

Barbecues
We do not allow you to bring your own barbecue on to site and disposable barbecues are not permitted.
There are two free barbecues on site, which are provided on a first come first served basis.
There are also two bookable barbecues are available to hire for the day for groups. Please ring 01580 213044 to check availability and to make a booking.
You need to provide your own charcoal and Pay & Display parking charges still apply. Barbecues must be fully extinguished when you leave the site.

Horse Riding
Annual riding permits are available from Toll Rides (Off-Road) Trust.

Discovery Pass
Enjoy Seven Sisters, Friston Forest & Abbots Wood through the seasons with an annual Discovery Pass from the Forestry Commission.

Hailsham is the nearest town or village.

Abbot's Wood is signposted off the A22 between Hailsham and Polegate and is also signposted off the A27 at Wilmington.

I agree with Josh that the OS map isn't suitable for circular walks. I had a copy of Patrick Coulcher's book, Wildlife Walks around the Cuckmere Valley. There is a circular walk in there and the route was easy to follow. Some useful other walks too. Abbots Wood was lovely for a rainy Bank Holiday Monday but a shame to see some litter around.

As above, lovely to walk in but really does need much better signing. I couldn't find the lake either!
