About Whinlatter Forest Park

Welcome to Whinlatter Forest Park, England's only true Mountain Forest. Rising to 790 metres above sea level Whinlatter Forest Park offers spectacular views of the Lake District and into Scotland.

The Altura Trail puts altitude into Mountain Biking by offering stunning views and a great single track trail which rises to 500m (1600ft) above Keswick and the northern lakes.

Snowy ride along the altura trail

Go Ape! Whinlatter serves up an adventure that never fails. Our tree top adventure includes rope bridges, tarzan swings and zip slides up to 40 feet up in the trees.

With great views over Grizedale Pike, your Go Ape! adventure finishes with a breathtaking long zip. You’ll share around 3 hours of fun and adventure going ape up in the trees.

The Go Ape adventure in the forest is a must do adventure for families, groups , young and old.

Booking is essential, call Go Ape on 0845 643 9215 or visit Go Ape online.

From April to August annually watch the Bassenthwaite Ospreys through our live nest camera or visit the Lake District Osprey Project and see the ospreys from the outdoor viewpoint or visit the exhibition and live video camera  at Whinlatter.

Exceptional Mountain Bike trails

We enjoyed our bike ride on the Blue Track with 7 year old son on his own bike, and 4 year old daughter on tail-gator, despite the rain. We finished the ride along the road as my son was struggling a bit towards the end so he pushed his bike up the last hill. The kids play area is fantastic, with lots of experiments to do like shifting gravel with scoops and pullies, moving water through locks, and lots of climbing areas. Well worth a visit
