About Llanover Road
This popular woodland has a large open area for relaxing, with a pond and views over to the Severn.
There are footpaths, tracks to walk and parking available. The Cwmafon beech trees are the most westerly native beechwood and were grown here for use in the Dan y Capel limekiln (also in the woodland).
The woodland is a mixture of conifer and broadleaves mainly Beech. The long term aim of Blaenavon is to be returned to native broadleaf woodlands.
How to get there:
Llanover Road is in Blaenafon Woodland.
From Heads of the Valleys Road (A465), exit at Brynmawr and follow signs for 'Big Pit' and and the 'Iron Works'; pass through 'Garn yr Erw' and take the right turn for the Iron Works; you will pass sign to mark the 'World Heritage Site'. At the 'T' Junction turn right and head to traffic lights; pass through and take next left to a mini roundabout. Take the second left exit up the hill to the village green and church; turn right onto Llanover Rd. just before the Church. Pass the 'Pottery Pub' on your right and over the cattle grid. The woodland is on your right; there is access here.
From Pontypool, to the South, carry on on the B4246 through Pontypool, Abersychan then Cwmavon; at the mini roundabout in Blaenavon, take a right turn up the hill and follow instructions as above.
Abergavenny, Brynmawr, Abersychan, Pontypool, and Cwmavon are the nearest towns or villages.

Off road parking for three cars. Disabled picnic bench with accessible path at Llanover Road. Great Views to the Coity Mountain and Varteg. Good pub food at the Goose & Cuckoo pub and the Pottery. |
