Afan Forest Park

The Afan Valley is one of the narrowest, shortest, and most beautiful valleys in Wales, being about 15 miles long from its head at Bwlch yr Afan, to the sea at Aberavon Beach, Port Talbot.

The park itself nestles on the valley slopes and includes the communities of Pontrhydyfen, Cymer and Glyncorrwg as well as 11,000 hectares of forest - from windswept hilltops to glistening green valleys.

The drumming of woodpeckers welcomes vistors to the Afan valley, where once the hillsides rang from industry's clamour. Mature woodlands embrace relics of abandoned mines, tramways and railways. Native broadleaved trees thrive on the lower slopes and streams once stained dark with coal dust, flow crystal clear.

Explore the Forest Park by following forest tracks on foot or by bicycle, or choose the waymarked walking or cycling trails that will enable you to reach the best view points and most interesting features from the Afan Forest Park Visitor Centre and the Car Parks at Rhyslyn and Tymaen.

How to get there:

Afan Forest Park is part of Afan Forest Park. Cwmafan is the nearest town or village.
