Allean
The walks at Allean Forest, just west of the Queen's View Centre combine varied terrain and tree species with interesting archaeological sites. Within a few minutes walk from the car park the trail passes through the Clachan, a partly restored eighteenth century farmstead. Half a mile to the east are the well preserved remains of an eighth century 'ring fort' in a commanding position overlooking Loch Tummel.
Allean is a good example of planting trees to match the varied terrain - Douglas Fir predominates on the dry areas, pine trees thrive amongst the heather, spruces on the grassy areas and larch trees in the bracken.
