Recreation at Lord Ancrum's Wood
 

Colour rating today: turned golden turned golden
Come and explore this wonderful ancient woodland on the banks of the River South Esk. Just a short walk from Dalkeith and you will find panoramic views of stunning Autumn colours. The rusts and golds of the Ash, Oak and Beech mix with the bottle greens of the many Yews along the pathside.

How to get there:

Dalkeith is the nearest town or village.

By bus
From Edinburgh you can take the X81, X95 and 95 First Bus, and Munro's of Jedburgh / Midlothian 308. These buses stop at the entrance to Newbattle Abbey College.
By road
From the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass take the Gilmerton Junction for Butterfly World. Go past Butterfly World on the A772 heading east and take the B6392 then the B703 Newbattle Road. You will pass the entrance to Newbattle Abbey College at a sharp bend in the road. The woodland is found in the grounds of the College, please park in the surrounding residential roads and walk in to the College grounds.
