(Average user rating: 4 Stars 4/5)

About Balblair Mountain Bike Trails

With stunning views over the Kyle of Sutherland and out to the West, the trails at Balblair offer both a fun blue route for competent bikers and challenging black route for experienced riders.

The blue route is a perfect trail if you want a quick spin. Enjoy the in-forest feel of the ‘Whoopy do’ section and the smooth descent on the ‘Ceilidh Trail’.

If you are an experienced mountain biker who is up for a challenge then have a go at the Balblair black route. There is plenty to test even the most experienced cyclist with rock slabs such as ‘Rock Hard’ and ‘Candy Mountain’, timber trails and lung-busting up hill sections. Not for the faint hearted but the view from the top of the hill at the mast is well worth the effort.

How to get there:

Was up there for the first time in a year last weekend and was just as impressed as first time round. So you can miss the blue bit out on the climb but once you get up the hill the climb becomes much more interesting with loads of grippy, slabby and northshory features to keep you occupied.
The downhill at Candy Mountain from the mast is quality. Interesting northshore caught my mate out and again the slabs at the top offer amazing views out west if you can stop concentrating on the task in hand.
The downhill is full of features and keeps you thinking right to the bottom.
It's rough and ready and a bit of a hidden gem to be honest.
Oh and the sun shone.
