About Balblair Mountain Bike Trails

The trails

With stunning views over the Kyle of Sutherland and out to the West, the trails at Balblair offer both a fun blue route for competent bikers and challenging black route for experienced riders.

The blue route is a perfect trail if you want a quick spin. Enjoy the in-forest feel of the ‘Whoopy do’ section and the smooth descent on the ‘Ceilidh Trail’.

If you are an experienced mountain biker who is up for a challenge then have a go at the Balblair black route. There is plenty to test even the most experienced cyclist with rock slabs such as ‘Rock Hard’ and ‘Candy Mountain’, timber trails and lung-busting up hill sections. Not for the faint hearted, but the view from the top of the hill at the mast is well worth the effort.

Please note that Carbisdale Castle no longer does bike hire.

The trails here are excellent-some of my favourite forestry trails. The mix of rock slabs and boardwalks are superbly designed and make for great biking at red/black level. Definately worth a visit.

Rode this trail with a friend and thought it was great, the rock is very granular and the northshore has an excellent surface, so plenty of grip, a very do-able black more like a Wolftrax red. Bring a bike that likes climbing though.

I stopped off here with some friends on our way to Torridon. We'd just ridden Golspie and I actually loved Balblair far more than Golspie. What a brilliant trail - well done whoever designed it to accommodate all the rocky slabs. I could have ridden it several times over. 10/10 from me.
