Balblair
About Balblair
This is a mixed conifer forest. Two walks start through a lovely area of straight stemmed mature spruce, larch and pine planted in 1931.
The shorter loop has fine but limited views over Kyle of Sutherland before reaching a small recently restored pond. This pond is a haven for insect and bug life - see if you can spot the newts!
The longer walk is a little more work yet offers the finest views towards the Carbisdale Castle and down the Firth to Struie Hill.
Balblair is also home to the Kyle of Sutherland Mountain Bike black and blue trails.
How to get there:
Balblair is part of Sutherland. Bonar Bridge is the nearest town or village.
From Bonar Bridge, take the A836 west for about one mile then turn right, following Forestry Enterprise signs for the forest.
