Clunes

Clunes is an older wood on the North side of Loch Lochy with very steep slopes. It is made up of commercial plantations in the Great Glen, however when you head North West towards Loch Arkaig ther is a much more natural apearance from the Pine woods and broadleaf elements. Encompassing the Great Glen Cycle route and the Great Glen Way Clunes is well used by walkers and cyclists. As a main timber producing area operations are frequent however, we do try and keep these to the winter months.

How to get there:

Speanbridge is the nearest town or village.
OS Grid Reference:

By Road only. From Speanbridge head north on the A82 for Inverness for 1.5km. Take the left turn at the Commando memorial and head for Gairlochy. After crossing the canal turn right and this road will take you to Loch Arkaig. On the way you will pass Clunes entrance and at that point the road heads left to the Dark mile where the car park for Prince Charlies cave walk is situated.
From Fort William you take the Banavie road to Gairlochy following the canal on your right. Once at Gairlochy keep straight on keeping the canal and Loch Lochy on your right.
