About Clunes
Clunes is an older wood on the north side of Loch Lochy with very steep slopes. It is made up of commercial plantations in the Great Glen. However when you head northwest towards Loch Arkaig there is a much more natural apearance from the Pine woods and broadleaf elements.
Encompassing the Great Glen Way, Clunes is well used by walkers, cyclists and horse riders
Tree Cutting work is taking place on the Great Glen Way through Clunes Forest. Their may be diversions around the site in place. Please observe any safety signage and keep out of work sites.
Hill walkers access to the Lochy Munros is affected by path closures at Chia-Aig falls - please follow any diversions.
How to get there:
Speanbridge is the nearest town or village.
Access is by road only. From Spean bridge, head north on the A82 to Inverness for 1.5km. Take the left turn at the Commando memorial and head for Gairlochy. After crossing the canal, turn right and this road will take you to Loch Arkaig.
On the way you will pass Clunes entrance and at that point the road heads left to the Dark Mile where the car park for Chia-Aig walk is situated.
From Fort William, take the Banavie Road to Gairlochy following the canal on your right. Once at Gairlochy continue straight on, keeping the canal and Loch Lochy on your right.
