Yes, the Lochan has been full of water since early September 2009 and during September/October we stocked it with approximately 500 fish for a bit of back end fishing. We normally open the Lochan for fishing on the 1st April and this year are looking to put in 200 to 250 fish per month from March through to September inclusive.

Sorry you had a bad day fishing at the Lochan. The Lochan was restocked on the 7th September, and as far as we know fishing has been good. We had an email from a couple who had been fishing there on Saturday who had a great day and caught four fish. Others who have been in the last couple of weeks have told us they caught fish within seven or eight minutes. Buying a permit is no guarantee of catching a fish unfortunately. Finding lots of dead fish floating is odd, but we had an inspection yesterday (28th Sept), and a look today and could see nothing. As for the guest house selling your permits, they were told by us that the Lochan had been restocked with 300 fish on 7th September, so they would have sold you permits in good faith. I'm not sure where the local rumour that there were no fish came from, but to our knowledge, fish stocks are still good. We will look into the problems though, and plan to re-stock early October.

There was a problem with a slow leak in the sluice at the end of the lochan, and to repair it, the lochan had to be partially drained. The repair has now been made and the lochan will refill naturally over a period of weeks. It will also be restocked with fish. For more information contact Lochaber Forest District on 01397 702184.
