About Forests of the Southern Uplands
Clinging to the slopes of heather clad hills, and flanking the sides of tumbling streams, the forests of the Southern Uplands straddle the natural barrier between England and Scotland.
Remains of hill forts and cairns are a reminder of turbulent times in the area, but today, these now peaceful lands offer exhilirating walks for the more adventurous.
How to get there:
Moffat, Langholm, Lockerbie, Dumfries, and Thornhill are the nearest towns or villages.
From Glasgow and the north - follow the A74(M) and exit at junction 15 (Moffat) or junction 17 (Lockerbie).
From Carlisle and the south - follow the A74(M) and exit at junction 18 (Lockerbie)or junction 15 (Moffat).
From Stranraer and the west - follow the A75 towards Dumfries, then the A701 towards Moffat, or the A709 towards Lockerbie.
