Recreation at Screel

Apart from the satisfaction of achieving the summit, the attraction of this walk is the magnificent views over the Solway Coast and the surrounding Galloway countryside. The walk uses rough hill paths, and suitable footwear is essential, as is appropriate equipment for hill walking.

How to get there:

Screel is part of Forests of the Solway Coast. Auchencairn, Palnackie, Castle Douglas, and Dalbeattie are the nearest towns or villages.

Follow the A711 from Dalbeattie or Kirkcudbright. The car park is signposted south of Palnackie. The nearest train station is in Dumfries.
