About Barnluasgan Visitor Centre

Barnluasgan Visitor Centre provides the ideal starting point for walks and cycling in the famous knap and dale landscape of this National Scenic Area.

The All Ability Wildlife Trail beside the Loch at Barnluasgan is ideal for the less able and those with young families.

Knapdale is full of historic and archaeological sites, the ancient Castle Dounie, Arichonan Township or the ruins of the water mill at Kilmory Oib are the evidence of man's past in Knapdale.

Both the freshwater and sea lochs of Knapdale are a haven for wildlife. Seals, otters and porpoises can often be seen from the shores of Loch Sween or the Sound of Jura. Information on all this can be found in the unmanned centre.

How to get there:

Barnluasgan Visitor Centre is in Knapdale Forest. Lochgilphead is the nearest town or village.

From A816 one mile north of Loghgilphead. Follow B841 towards Crinan then B8025 from Bellanoch towards Tayvallich. Barnluasgan Visitor Centre is at the junction of the road to Achnamara village.

Following the refurbishment of the car park and walk round the loch at Barnluasgan, I was unfortunate enough to break my ankle and find myself reliant on a wheelchair. What a fantastic facility you have provided for those less fortunate than myself and are permanently disabled. I look forward to walking round the loch as before. Regular visitors. Well done!!
