Knapdale Forest

(Average user rating5 unrated 5/5)

About Knapdale Forest

The Loch Coille Bharr trail is currently open but it is difficult to complete the circuit due to flooding along the eastern edge of the loch.

The beavers have been very active in building dams on the loch which has caused flooding across the footpath and surrounding area. The water is very deep and cannot be crossed.

The rest of the trail is open and visitors can access viewpoints on Loch Coille Bharr or extend their walk to the Faery Isles.

Knapdale Forest is situated in a National Scenic Area and is flanked to the north by the Crinan Canal and to the west by the Sound of Jura and Loch Sween. The name is derived from the Gaelic description of its striking topographical features; Cnap (hill) and Dall (field).

The walks, picnic sites and cycle routes within Knapdale are situated close together and are designed to allow access to a variety of habitats and to provide interest and enjoyment to all those who use them.

Barnluasgan Information Centre provides the ideal starting point to find out more about the Scottish Beaver Trial. The centre has information on where to look for Beavers and how the Beavers have arrived back to Scotland after 400 years!

Beavers are more likely to be seen at dusk and dawn. Best viewing spots are on the walking trail around Loch Coille Bharr. Bring your binoculars, walking boots and midge nets on your visit.

How to get there:
