Glen Creran

(Average user rating3 unrated 3/5)

About Glen Creran

Located in a beautifully secluded area of North Argyll, Glen Creran boasts an example of Scotland's very own rainforest, the Atlantic Oakwoods.

Here you can see native wildlife making its home in this newly restored landscape.

The Pine Marten Trail

The main trail here is the Pine Marten Trail which starts from Elleric Car Park.

Glen Ure was the home of Colin Campbell of Glenure - the victim of the notorious 1752 Appin Murder and the 'Red Fox' of Robert Louis Stevenson's 'Kidnapped'.

Along the walk you can find out about the Last Clansman Trail, an initiative which links other sites featured in the story together - such as Leitir Mhor, Cnap a'Chaolais (where James Stewart was executed for the murder) and Gleann Duror.

How to get there:

Appin and Barcaldine is the nearest town or village.

From the south, east and west follow the A828 towards Appin and Fort William. Go across the Creagan bridge and turn right at the roundabout for Invercreran.

From Fort William and Appin, turn left at this roundabout. After two miles, bear left onto the single track road and continue up the Glen to the car park at the end of the public road.

Last Friday my daughter and I enjoyed walking this trail and I think you did a very good job with the path, the signage-particularly the flip up information flags-and the views, so I thought I should tell you. One comment, which is that silver birch trees have grown and now block the view to a house referred to on one of the highest flags. Maybe the solution is to move that about 10 metres west. However well done for a good idea sympathetically carried out and well maintained.

I agree; why isn't there a link for the glen creran trail anywhere here? A really confusing and un-user friendly website for outdoor activities... Having said that, I really enjoyed the walk!

The wood is good, the web site is appalling
