Recreation at Corlarach

Rising high above the Firth of Clyde to the east and Loch Striven on the west, Corlarach Forest offers glorious views, rich in wildlife and a chance for a good stretch if you feel like it. The Firth of Clyde and the long standing sea lochs were centres of activity during the Two World Wars. In 1943 an anti submarine boom stretched from West Bay in Dunoon to the Cloch Lighthouse.

How to get there:

Dunoon is the nearest town or village.
OS Grid Reference: NS136697

There are two equally appealing approaches to the Corlarach Forest from Glasgow. By car ferry from Gourock to Dunoon, turn left then follow the A815. By road follow the A82 along the western shore of Loch Lomond through Tarbet, entering the Argyll Forest Park at Arrochar, follow the A83 onto the A815 to Dunoon.

For public transport information follow the Traveline Scotland link under the Useful sites section opposite.

What's of interest
Dunoon Castle was built before 1250 and was last lived in around 1650. It is one of the earliest stone built castles in Scotland and Mary Queen of Scots stayed there in 1563.
