Sherwood Pines Forest Park

(Average user rating: 5 Stars 4.3/5)

About Sherwood Pines Forest Park

Sherwood Pines Forest Park is 3300 acres and the largest single tract of forest open to the public in the East Midlands.

The forest provides a great venue for many activities. The cycling facilities provide something for every one, from family cyclists to experienced off road riders. The way marked walking trails meander through some of the oldest parts of the forest, there are also many other tracks and trails to be explored.

There are several play areas to entertain the kids (both young and old!). The visitor centre has a cafe, toilets, cycle hire and Go Ape! the high wire forest adventure.

Please note the forest park closing times (on site) as we now operate contract closing for the forest park and a release fee will be chargeable for vehicles left beyond this time.

The forest will be closed to walkers and cyclists for a car rally on the 15th June 2009

Staff at the shop are friendly, The trails are good for all age groups and abilities.
Maps are available and recommended as this place is quite big and can be a maze. The New red route is an hours worth of lung exploding, leg killing, huge grin on ya face singletrack action.
Come here for a proper ride or with the kids. It is still under construction in some areas and the trails are improving all the time.

What a disorientating place this is. Today I set off to follow the 'red trail' The first couple of miles were fine, the red arrows (tho nowhere near as prominent as the 'adventure trail' or 'family trail')could be followed with some concentration. Then they seemed to disappear altogether somewhere near the new 'bike park' area. I looked in vain for the continuation of the red trail, took a guess and soon found myself lost among the trees and maze of paths. Very frustrating, with no landmarks and the sun directly overhead I soon lost my sense of direction. Eventually I found the way back to the main paths and the return route. I have cycled here several times before and always seem to take a different route because of the poor signage on the longer trails. Have the staff ridden the routes? do you care? I dont think I shall bother again. This is not a forest it is just a monotonous plantation.
