About Salcey Forest

Salcey Forest is an oasis of nature and history only 7 miles from the centre of Northampton. Wildlife and history are in abundance at Salcey. So come and discover why elephants roamed the forest and where to find a roman road.

If you have a head for heights, ascend the all ability Tree Top Way and see Salcey from a completely different viewpoint, with fantastic views in store at the top.

There are extensive trails to help you explore the forest, with three walking trails, two of which are all-access paths. There is a 5 mile family cycle route and a 6 mile horse riding trail with its own car park for horse boxes.

How to get there:

Hartwell is the nearest town or village.

Salcey Forest is between Milton Keynes and Northampton, and located immediately to the east of the small village of Hartwell.

I loved this place myself, and the bridges in the trees are brilliant. It should be 6 stars.

Forest very pleasant, facilities a little tired but otherwise ok. Couldn't believe the prices in the cafe - what a rip off! Only wanted black coffee and its just granules. Could have bought two jars of coffee granules for the same price. I won't go back there!

What's of interest

Please note that woodland management operations will be taking place along the trails around the main car park and Tree Top Way, for your safety please follow diversion signs. For the week commencing 1st March, trail diversions are as follows: 1. Elephant Walk: diversion in place until the end of the week. 2.Church Path Walk: diverted back on itself at Church Path Oak. 3. Cycle Trail: diverted along Woodpecker Trail, then rejoins road after Church Path Oak. 4. Tree Top Way: open as usual. The woodland will be fully open from Thursday to Sunday inclusive. For the purposes of SatNav, the postcode for Salcey is NN7 2HX.
