Forestry Operations

Forestry Operations are taking place across large sections of the East of Mortimer Forest.  The Climbing Jack and Vinnalls Loop trails have been diverted for your safety.

Please be aware that there will be large machinery moving around the forest.

 

Vinnalls is the starting point for three walking trails in Mortimer Forest and a great place for a play and a picnic.

We have some simple natural play features here aimed at encouraging imaginative play in the forest and lots of picnic tables.

   

Three walking trails start from this car park the Easy Access Trail a surfaced trail suitable for buggies and mobility scooters, Vinnalls Loop and The Climbing Jack Trail for seasoned walkers.

 

Please note that there are height restriction barriers at this car park. Visitors with horse boxes need to use the Black Pool car park for which a key is available for purchase from the forest office.

Vinnalls Loop brings you to wonderful views and paths, stunning! It is quite a climb, but worth it. Bring good shoes with you when it rains!

Advice for visitors

What's Here?

  • Orienteering
    • A permenant course has been devised by Wrekin Orienteers. Courses are suitable for beginners and maps can be bought from Ludlow Tourist information Centre for approximately £1.50.
  • Parking
    • There are height restriction barriers on all our car parks in Mortimer Forest.
  • Picnic
    • There are lots of picnic tables close to the car park.
  • Play area
    • We are creating natural play spaces close to Vinnalls car park.
  • Trail (easy)
    • The Easy Access trail starts from Vinnalls car park and is suitable for buggies and mobility scooters.
  • Trail (hard)
    • Climbing Jack trail starts at Vinnalls car park and takes the seasoned walker on a nine mile walk through most of the different areas of the Forest.
  • Trail (moderate)
    • Follow the respective waymarked trails from Vinnalls, Black Pool or Whitcliffe car parks for a moderate walk.
  • Viewpoint
    • The walk up to High Vinnalls is a must on a clear day.
