What do other visitors say?

1 Star 1 Star

Too many dogs off their leads, my dog is always kept on a lead (and with plenty of lead may i add - and he is quite happy with it) but there has been a rise in the amount of dogs that keep attacking mine when they are off a lead, when I argue with their owners they always say 'oh they are only playing' (when its teeth are out and its going for my dogs neck - right oh!) If people want to leave dogs off a lead - go in a field - not where others are walking as its not fair on my dog! If this continues we will be going elsewhere, which is a shame as its only a few idiots that ruin it for everyone - please can the FC enforse a rule?

I'm sorry you did not enjoy your walk at Haughmond Hill and would agree that often dog owners forget that some people, dogs and children in particular, are wary of dogs and do not wish to be approached no matter how friendly a dog may be. We would like our woods to be enjoyed by all our visitors. We welcome responsible dog walkers in our woods and ask visitors too keep their dogs under close control (within sight and able to call to heel). It is a policy decision not to insist that all dogs are kept on a lead right across the woodlands. However I do believe that it would be sociable and safety conscious to put dogs on a lead when around the cafe and car park area and this would also give an element of control on dog fouling issues. Haughmond Hill is a beautiful place for people to visit with and without dogs I would just ask that some consideration is shown for other visitors and the woods.

Forestry Commission Response

Hello, I am trying to find information on collecting firewood. We have a small woodburner and would love to collect fallen branches and sticks while walking but we are unsure as to if we are allowed to do this. Can you give me some information on this please, maybe telling me of any kind of licence we can buy which would allow us to collect wood this way. Many thanks for your help.

Mrs Lambert, 6/May/2013

Sorry we don't issue firewood collection licences in this part of the country. Deadwood is a vital part of the forest cycle providing habitat and food for invertebrates and fungi at the bottom of the food chain.

Forestry Commission Response

With your coming parking charges I predict that all the gateways into the surrounding fields, which I have to use daily will be blocked by people dodging the charges, not to mention the cutting up of the verges and danger caused due to parking in the narrow lanes :( Not going to be so good for people who actually live here.

Dave, 5/Mar/2013

We will monitor the situation Dave and work with local communities to limit the effect on our neighbors as much as possible.
