Explore Croft Wood
(Average user rating: 5 unrated 4.5/5)

This woodland straddles the crest of the hill between Croft Ambrey and Croft Castle, both of which belong to the National Trust.

Parts of this woodland are historic wood pasture and ancient pollarded oak, sweet chestnut and yews can be found both dead and alive. The careful management of these veteran trees is a priority of the local Forestry Commission team.

4 Stars 4 Stars

This is a beautiful, peaceful, and well-managed wood. There is rich bird life, and deer and other mammals are often to be seen (if you are quiet!). There are lovely views from the ridge looking west towards Wales. The sweet chestnut avenue leading down towards the castle is ancient and magnificent.
