Recreation at Viridor Wood
 

Colour rating today: turning golden turning golden
From Colliery to community woodland, with large open spaces, great views, sulptures and car parking Viridor Wood is an ideal way to speand an afternoon. Linking to the Three Sisters County Park and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal you can explore further afield from here.
In Autumn see the changing seasonal hues through Richard Caink's "Window Frame" sculpture or watch the Big Poplars turn golden marking the place where Mains Colliery used to stand.

How to get there:

Abram, Banfurlong, Platt Bridge, Hindley, and Wigan are the nearest towns or villages.

Mid way between Stubshaw Cross and Bryn Gates on the A58 Bolton Road, buses regularly stop at the entrance to Viridor Wood, and its just a short walk from the local villages. Alternatively there is a car park set back from the road just north of Stubshaw Cross.
