Explore Friston Forest
(Average user rating: 5 unrated 4.2/5)

Friston Forest offers an infinite number of waymarked routes for visitors to explore the beech woods. Its undulating terrain makes it popular with walkers and mountain bikers. Both are served with waymarked trails of varying lengths.

Walking trails

Go for a gentle walk following forest tracks between plantations.

Wildlife

Quiet valleys within the forest offer sheltered habitats for many species of wildlife. Glimpses of rare butterflies, such as fritillaries, and elusive deer can reward patient observers.

Horse riding

Friston Forest offers some of the best riding in the south of England; with a wealth of bridleways, some of which join up with the South Downs. Riding off bridleways is by permit only. Permits are available through TROT on 01622 735599 or visit their website for more information. Box parking is available at Butcher's Hole car park.

Discovery Pass

Save money and enjoy Abbots Wood, Seven Sisters Country Park Friston Forest & Abbots Wood through the seasons with an annual Discovery Pass from the Forestry Commission. Purchase your pass for £25 online or onsite at the Seven Sisters Country Park Visitor Centre. The Disovery Pass gives you a free parking in a number of carparks along with a range of benefits - visit the website for further details.

Barbecues

There are two free barbecues on site, which are provided on a first come first served basis. Please ring 01580 213044 to check availability and to make a booking.

You need to provide your own charcoal and Pay & Display parking charges still apply. Barbecues must be fully extinguished when you leave the site. We do not allow you to bring your own barbecue on to site.

Very dissapointed with the Litlington Road toilets. No toilet roll and nowhere to hang anything in the cubicle, subsequently I had to put my rucksac on the swamped floor and dig my 'emergency' loo roll out of it. Considering that the forest is meant to be a beech forest, there is an awful lot of ash and sycamore creeping into the forest and not just around the edges, plus rosebay willowherb is taking over the ride edges and areas where the rare-ish Yellow birds nest is established (near the Southern water buildings in particular). The view point hasn't much of a veiw as the foreground has become overgrown, the veiw is much better from the track below it. One of the tracks from 7 sis CP has had a fallen tree across it for some time now and a ranger could do with a litter picking day also. Sorry if this seems picky but some of these issues are long standing. Other than that the forest is pretty damn nice with a fair bit of flora and fauna seen and photographed by myself.
