About Friston Forest

Friston Forest offers an infinite number of way marked routes for visitors to explore the beech woods. It's undulating terrain makes it popular with walkers and mountain bikers. Both are served with waymarked trails of varying lengths. Two car parks service the forest, giving visitors a choice of facilities, views and landscapes.
Quiet valleys within the forest offer sheltered habitats for many species of wildlife. Glimpses of rare butterflies like the fritillaries and elusive deer, can reward patient observers.

How to get there:

Eastbourne is the nearest town or village.

Friston Forest is located behind Seven Sisters Country Park off the A259 road between Seafod and East Dean. Two car parks can be found off minor roads travelling north from the main Seven Sisters Car park and on the eastern boundary at East Dean.

andy Clapham - i feel your pain that DH track was par to f my child hood (i now ride XC) But on the hole friston is a brill place. ok so it does not have all of the bells that the other places have (not just those we have come to expect for cycling, andy) but other bits. the FC have ameeting in a few weeks about Friston so hopefully they can invest some time into a much loved area of east sussex...........bring on the trail centre! and way marked paths! or a goape centre!

We always have a great time in Friston Forest. In spring its the bluebells, in summer its a cool leafy retreat, in autumn it's on fire and winter it's a frosty wonderland. I love it. It's easy to access so a great introduction for kids to the countryside and there is even a view where there is not a road in sight... not bad for the over-populated south-east!

Have grown up with trips to the forest. It's a shame that there is a need for parking charges as this adds to the cost instead of a free day out. as we would be more frequent with our visits for a lovely day out. Do you have a parking scheme annual payment perhaps? The appears to be more wild life since I was a child - I saw a grass snake, a very long one!' last year. But what has happened to the pond at west dean village? There used to be many wildfowl and the pond was always ver healthy. regards, jenny
