Explore Shouldham Warren
(Average user rating: 5 unrated 5/5)

An undulating site on the edge of the fens with two healthy woodland walks. Remnants of an historic spring on top of the hill are indicated by a Rhododendron avenue, there is also a World War II rifle butt close to the entrance.

At the Black Drain good views over Tall Herb Fen to the North acrosss the River Nar.

Good Autumn colours.

What do other visitors say?

Sir/Madam, I recently moved in to the area; l reside in Wereham. I have passed SW. many a time on the way to Kings Lynn, but have only go in as far as the parking area; this is due to the fact that l have a disability and l have to use crutches. My question being; if l were to take my dog there for a walk/run etc are there facilities for me to rest ie; bench and/or seats at which point l could enjoy the views and woodland in general? Thanks in anticipation

Very nice place, lots of wild flowers and butterflies. An excellent place to walk your dog.

Lovely place to walk my dogs.. Might even ride a horse there if it is permitted. Wonderful rhododendrons, beautiful views, and you see so much more on horseback.

What's Here?

  • Dogs on lead
  • Walking
  • Horse riding
  • The Forestry Commission has a Open Access policy for horse riding. As a consequence there are very few way-marked trails in the forest. O.S.Explorer map 229 shows areas owned by the Forestry Commission and open to the public to ride. Deboxing areas can be found at the east end of the Harling Drove (FR23) and north of the railway line at Santon Downham. The areas north of the railway line are best suited to horse riding as this is away from the concentration of visitors using High Lodge and the cycling trails. Please observe all signs especially those relating to 'Forest Operation'.
