About Dorset Horse Riding

If you wish to ride a horse on Forestry Commission Land in any of our Ringwood or Wareham woodlands you are required to have a Forestry Commission Riding Permit.

The costs of the permits are below:
£15.00 - Private Riding - Valid for 1 month
£45.00 - Private Riding - Valid for 1 year
£75.00 - Commercial Permit for Businesses - Valid for 1 year.

Dorset Horse Riding is in Ringwood Forest which is part of Dorset Woodlands. Ringwood and Bournemouth are the nearest towns or villages.

Situated on the edge of Ringwood, this extensive area of pine woodland and heathland glades is the perfect area of explore on bike, on horse or by foot.

Activities

HorseRiding.gif When riding on Forestry Commission land please follow the Horseriding code:

a)Only ride on Forest Roads, waymarked riding trails and multiuser trails unless they are marked unsuitable for horses.

b)Respect other Forest users and always be friendly

c)Remember vehicles may use these tracks as well as you.

d)Do not build jumps or hurdles or attempt to jump stacked timber

e)Pay attention to all warning signs and adhere to their instructions

f)Ride at a walk or trot

g)Follow the Countryside code

h)Do not ride on picnic sites or designated foot paths.

i)Leave parking areas clean and tidy and if you are using a box please do not block gateways or other forest users.

a)If you are riding alone please tell somone where you are going and how long you intend to be gone for

b) Carry a mobile phone with you in case of an emergancy

c)Wear high visability clothing so you can be seen by others

d)Horse Riders are encouraged to carry their own third liability insurance whilst riding in Forestry Commission Woodlands.

What's of interest

Did you know that it is against the Forestry Commission byelaws to ride or lead a horse without a permit in Forestry Commission woodlands.

The only exceptions are bridleways and in the New Forest where permits are not required.
