Lydford
 

A beautiful woodland valley on the western edge of Dartmoor between Okehampton and Tavistock. A circular walk takes you through areas of mixed conifer, with vistas of the Lyd Valley, then down to the river and back. A look at the spectacular Lydford Gorge on the neighbouring National Trust land is a must.

How to get there:

Launceston, Tavistock, and Lydford Village are the nearest towns or villages.

Heading south on the A30 from Okehampton join the A386 at Sourton Down. Turn right off the A386 in to Lydford village. In the centre of the village turn right at the war memorial and continue along this road for approximately 1km before turning left on to the signposted forest track.

With the exception of bridleways horse riders require a permit to ride in these woods. Please contact the District Office on 01392 832262 for an application form.
