About Main Gate

An ideal place to start a day's sightseeing, Great Plantation is near to the pretty market towns of Newton Abbot and Bovey Tracey and is on the doorstep of Dartmoor National Park.

How to get there:

Main Gate is in Great Plantation. Bovey Tracey and Newton Abbot are the nearest towns or villages.

The entrance to Great Plantation can be found opposite the Esso garage on the A382 between Bovey Tracey and the Drumbridges Roundabout.

HorseRiding.gif With the exception of bridleways horse riders require a permit to ride in these woods. Please contact the District Office on 01392 832262 for an application form.
Heritage Passing through Great Plantation is the Templar Way, an 18 mile trail which takes walkers between Haytor on Dartmoor and the coastal town of Teignmouth. The walk follows the route by which granite was exported from Dartmoor via the unique Haytor Granite Tramway and the Stover Canal.
