A pleasant place to start your exploring or a welcome break from the bleakness of the surrounding moorland, the picnic area adjacent to the car park affords lovely views across the reservoir, an attractive focal point to this forest.
Please note that the car park and picnic area are managed by South West Lakes Trust. Fishing permits should be obtained from the Trust by visiting the South West Lakes Trust website, or from the self service kiosk in the car park. Horse riders also require a permit (see right).
How to get there:
South West Lakes Trust Car Park is in Fernworthy.
From Chagford, follow the road signposted Fernworthy Reservoir. Ignore the first forest entrance sign stating 'Fernworthy Forest' and cross over the cattle grid. Carry on for a further 200 metres before turning right into the car park and picnic site.
Chagford and Dartmoor are the nearest towns or villages.
