Fernworthy

(Average user rating4 unrated 3.7/5)

Set within Dartmoor National Park, an interesting visit is assured if you come to Fernworthy. Hut circles, a reservoir and good forest paths are available for visitors to explore.

There are also great opportunities for fishing and horse riding. Please contact South West Lakes Trust for a fishing permit. A permit is also required for horse riding (see below).

How to get there:

Chagford and Dartmoor are the nearest towns or villages.

From Chagford, follow the road signposted Fernworthy Reservoir. Ignore the first forest entrance sign stating 'Fernworthy Forest' and cross over the cattle grid. Carry on for a further 200 metres before turning right into the car park and picnic site.

We were very distressed on visiting Fernworthy reservoir today to find the absolute desolation & destruction of the rhodedendron removal. It is our first visit this year,& not only saddened to think of the lack of colour there will be in the spring, but also the overall devastation that will ensue for the wild-life & birds that inhabit the area. It was also disappointing to find the toilets closed (although understand these have to be maintained) but also a car-parking charge enforced!! Please clarify & explain full reasons for the above. Thank you.

I already have a discovery pass for Haldon, why do I require another permit for Fernworthy? Can I use the ■20 already spent towards a permit?

Hi, Just wanted to say that we think that Fernworth is beautiful. We walk a lot around the lake and into the forest. No need to reply.

Bring your old wire coat hangers when you visit Fernworthy - some of the prehistoric settlements are known to be a good place to try dowsing, although success isn't guaranteed!
