Pleasley Park

(Average user rating5 unrated 4.6/5)

Pleasley Park is a lovely mix of broadleeaved and coniferous trees. Its 74 hectares offer delightful walks amongst hazel coppice and beech trees. There is a pond to discover too. It is bordered to the south and west by footpaths and bridleways. Adjacent is the Pleasley Mills Complex for outdoor pursuits.

I was one of the original members of the now Pleasley Park and some of the original people who came with us sadly are no longer here...the reason horse riding was not allowed was due to the damage that the footpaths were getting so it was banned as was cycling plus the woodland is very bad for mining subsidance and I have personally seen holes appear that you would easily loose someone down without a trace.About 5 or 6 of us dug out the pond mostly by hand and at a large expense to the Forestry Commision, it was put there to attract the wildlife and birds to drink from, we had the fire engine come and pump water from the stream alongside the mills and we aquired some fish with it! At one time we collected membership to keep the group running and to buy food during the winter for the birds but this I believe is no longer in existance. Its a beautiful woodland and makes a charming walk at this time of year...enjoy...

Lovely woods but can't understand why horse riding is not allowed here? What damage are horses going to do if kept to the main routes... and the riders courteous?

What's of interest

Pleasley Park is on the site of a mediaeval woodland which was cleared and later replanted. Archaeological features in the wood include ancient woodland boundary features and remnants of the quarry managers house which used to be on site.
