Recreation at Miterdale

Miterdale is a secluded quiet valley providing access to the West Cumbrian fells. A small grassy car park beside the River Mite provides the ideal place for a family picnic followed by pooh sticks and paddling, short and long walks through the forest or as the base for longer more adventureous treks into the mountains.

How to get there:

Eskdale Green, Egremont, and Whitehaven are the nearest towns or villages.

By Road:
From Gosforth or the A595 follow signs for Eskdale Green. North West of Eskdale Green turn north east up a lane and past St Begas Primary School. Follow the single track lane up the valley 1.5km through the gate and park in the open area on the left before the bridge beside the River Mite.
By Rail:
The nearest railway station is at Ravenglass on the line between Barrow and Carlisle. From Ravenglass take a ride on the wonderfull narrow gauge steam Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway up to Irton Road Station. Then walk 1.7km north east into Miterdale (Ordnance Survey Explorer Map OL6).
