Recreation at Ennerdale

The wild valley of Ennerdale is a must see visit in Autumn. The contrast between the golden colors of the larch's, beech and oaks along the lakeshore with the evergreen of the spruce are magnificient. In addition to the trees changing colours the heather, bracken and bilberry also add new vibrant colors to the mountains above the forest.

How to get there:

Ennerdale Village is the nearest town or village.

Road Only:
From Cockermouth take the A5086 towards Egrement. At Lamplugh take the minor road to Ennerdale Brdieg. In Ennerdale Bridge turn left for Croasdale and "The lake" Follow the road untill it ends at Bowness Knott Car Park

The Ennerdale Valley is criss crossed by many paths and rights of way providing unrivalled opportuntities to explore the high mountains peaks of the western Lake District.

Enjoy 14 miles of forest roads with great views of Ennerdale Water, mountains like Pillar and Great Gable, the River Liza and Ennerdale Forest

horse riding

The car park at Bowness Knott provides the best access point for horse riding as the forest road leading up the valley from the car park is a bridleway.
